About

Voice of the Proletariat was established in 2025 (originally under the name A Little Bit of Everything) as an avenue to provide analysis and commentary on current events, international relations (IR), geopolitics, and industry studies through a perspective that prioritizes Eastern and Global South views over the dominant Western narratives. This publication does not claim to speak for all of the working class.

Voice of the Proletariat is written by 박지훈 [Park Jee-hoon], an ethnic Korean who was adopted and raised by HKSAR Chinese parents in Canada. Currently, all articles are written in English, though there are plans to publish Chinese-language pieces in the future.

FAQ

How are articles sourced?

Voice of the Proletariat uses an evidence-first form of analysis. This means that articles typically begin with context and quotes by established sources, followed by an analytical breakdown of the given content. This considers both past (history) and present (current events), as well as theory and praxis.

Sources used include those in the West, East, and Global South where relevant. Given that Western media is the most commonly seen and cited in English-language media, there is a focus on Eastern and Global South views.

State-run media is preferred especially when discussing state-related matters, such as press releases or official statements, as these are often the sources closest to the relevant matters, offering firsthand perspectives without external framing.

Reports from independent, on-the-ground journalists are also incorporated. For social media posts, the journalist’s credentials and/or a named source must also be easily accessible.

Some have questioned the credibility of this publication. What is your comment?

I do not believe anyone can be “100% an expert” on any topic, as there is always more to read and more thought to be had. Further, lived experience shape worldviews, so there is no way to learn or understand any matter in complete neutrality.

However, I have extensively studied the popular music industry and political science—for the latter, transitional justice (TJ), geopolitics, and IR especially. I have studied psychology in the past as well, and retain an interest in philosophy, world history, and theology.

Additionally, as Voice of the Proletariat does not follow Western norms, credibility is defined differently. Opposing views are certainly considered, but only in context. A corporate-owned or funded news outlet with a clear stake in the topic, for instance, will be considered with that specific context in mind.

Does Voice of the Proletariat have ties to, or receive funding from, any state body?

No. Voice of the Proletariat is a wholly independent publication. Any funding received, whether through donations or paid subscriptions, originate only from supportive readers.

Does Voice of the Proletariat have ties to, or receive funding from, any other organization?

Again, Voice of the Proletariat does not receive external funding. All thoughts expressed in this publication are entirely my own and do not represent those of any affiliated organizations, companies, or institutions.

Do you use generative AI?

The use of generative AI (genAI) and large language models (LLMs) for writing, research, and image generation is strongly opposed by Voice of the Proletariat. At most, genAI may be used to clarify translations.

Can I write for Voice of the Proletariat?

We are always open to interviewees and guest writers. Please see our Collaborations page for more information.

What is your policy for article edits after release?

Small edits such as spelling/grammatical corrections will not be noted, while a note will be added if substantial changes are made.

Can I reference or cite your work?

As long as there is no intent to misrepresent or reinterpret my words, feel free to cite my work with attribution. I ask that students do not copy and paste or resubmit my work as your own, in whole or in part. Doing so constitutes plagiarism and is a gross violation of academic integrity at virtually every educational institution.

What is your position on post-Soviet Russia?

While Russia is no longer socialist as its predecessor the USSR was, I fully support Russia’s foreign policy and role in global politics, and especially in its criticism of Western imperialism and push for Palestinian sovereignty, self-governance, and self-determination. For a more detailed analysis of Russia, please see this article.

What is your position on the “Israel-Palestine conflict”?

I do not recognize the so-called “State of Israel” formed in 1948. This is a Zionist project—one that is settler-colonial, imperialist, and racist—that instrumentalizes Judaism and Christianity to justify genocide, ethnic cleansing, and land dispossession in the State of Palestine.

What is your position on armed resistance?

I am in full support of the right to self-determination of all peoples under foreign and colonial rule, including the right to armed struggle, as enshrined by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Additionally, I align with Chairman Mao Tse-tung’s classification of just and unjust wars in his “On Protracted War” (1938).

Do you view China as communist? What are your thoughts on the Maoist/Dengist divide?

I believe that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is in their primary stage of socialism; both Chairman Mao Tse-tung and Chairman Deng Xiaoping have contributed greatly to the concept of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and therefore, both should be considered. I commend current Chairman Xi Jinping on his good efforts toward the well-being of the masses.

What is your position on the Taiwan question?

I consider the Taiwan Province to be an inalienable part of China’s territory and fully support China’s defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As an ethnic Korean, what is your position on Korea?

I believe that Imperialist America should cease their interference in matters that do not concern them, including but certainly not limited to their meddling in internal Korean affairs. I am aware of many Koreans living in the south who have begun to question the hostility toward our northern brethren and commend them for their willingness to break free from the ideology America has placed on the Korean people.
