What is Western Marxism?

"Western Marxism is the Marxism born from the profound crisis of 1914–18 and from the triumph of the Bolshevik Revolution, which split the socialist movement and produced a rethinking of Marxist theory by intellectuals who were detached from political practice."

- Domenico Losurdo

Generally understood as a branch of Marxist thought that has developed primarily in the wealthy nations of the west, Western Marxism is defined by a focus on theoretical and abstract novelty over the concrete material application of Marxist-Leninist theory.

Additionally, Western Marxists regard the actually existing projects of socialist construction in countries such as China, Cuba, North Korea and Vietnam as unacceptable deviations from orthodox political theory and thus unworthy of support or consideration. This collection covers the development of Western Marxism from its inception through to the present day.
